Like a Virgin (Album)

Tras ver el potencial de su primer album, los ejecutivos de Sire Records, estaban dispuestos a mantener a Madonna como todo un fenómeno. Ya no sería una cantante a medio camino entre el dance y punk, sino una figura de género pop, destinada a un público general y apoyada por el marketing de una multinacional. Para ello contrataron a Nigel Rodgers, antiguo miembro del grupo CHIC, quien era el productor de moda gracias a su trabajo con David Bowie.

La colaboración entre Madonna y Nigel Rodgers fue excelente, al contrario de como habia sido con Reggie Lucas en la producción del disco anterior, ellos congeniaron rapidamente y trabajaron muy bien juntos. Con 5 canciones escritas por ella y la selección de otras canciones, Like a Virgin era un compendio casi perfecto de canciones pop, que estaba terminado para la primavera de 1984.

Aunque gracias a que su album debut seguia teniendo una buena aceptacion en las listas de popularidad, su lanzamiento fue retrasado hasta el mes de noviembre. Madonna estrenó el primer single "Like a Virgin", en la primera entrega de los MTV Video Music Awards, dos meses antes de que el album llegara a las tiendas. Fué su primer escándalo televisivo, vestida de novia y revolcándose por el piso, dejó a todos con la boca abierta causando la molestia de los críticos, quienes decian que hacia todo eso para tapar su falta de talento.

Es el album de estudio mas vendido de Madonna en Estados Unidos, y durante 1984, se decia que vendia un aproximado de 75 000 copias al dia. Poco tiempo despúes se estreno la pelicula "Desesperadamente Buscando a Susana" (Desperately Seeking Susan), que incluia la canción "Into The Groove", tal fue el éxito de esta, que el album tuvo que ser re-editado incluyendo la canción, convirtiendose en el primer #1 de Madonna en el Reino Unido.

Fue dedicado a "Tod@s l@s virgenes del mundo". En una re-edición posterior, conservando la portada original, incluyó dos nuevos remixes. Los diseñadores del arte del album temian que talvez algunas tiendas censuraran la portada de Madonna vestida de novia por lo que en la contraportada pusieron tambien el nombre del album y el de Madonna, por si los vendedores preferian utilizar la portada "alterantiva".

Lucky Star (Video)

El video de Lucky Star, es uno de los mas sencillos de la videografía de Madonna. Aparece vestida de negro bailando sobre un fondo blanco con sus bailarines inseparables de aquella época, Erica Bell y su hermano Christopher Ciconne. Filmado en Febrero de 1984 muestra un look de Madonna que fue muy comentado ya que mostraba mucho de su cuerpo, en especial su ombligo, que desde ahi fue calificado como perfecto, y al que ella llamaba "Belly Button" y lo describió como la zona más erógena de su cuerpo.

Borderline (Video)

Borderline, fue el primer video de Madonna dirigido por Mary Lambert, quien mas tarde repetiria con Like a Virgin, Material Girl, La Isla Bonita y Like a Prayer. Filmado entre el 30 de Enero y el 2 de Febrero de 1984 en Los Angeles, California. Cuenta la historia de una chica que llama la atención de un fotógrafo y quiere hacerla famosa, ella sin dudarlo se va con el y termina con su antiguo novio y luego intenta reocnquistarlo. Las escenas con el fotógrafo fueron rodadas en blanco y negro y en las que aparece con su novio son a color.

Holiday (Video)

Al parecer la disquera invirtió en un video musical para Holiday, pero resultó ser tan malo que no llegó a ser lanzado oficialmente, lo único que se sabe de este proyecto, es que Madonna bailaba frente a un fondo rosa y las única prueba son unas fotos que aparecieron en la portada de la revista I-D. En su lugar se utilizaron varias presentaciones que Madonna tuvó de la canción durante ese año.
