Para el videoclip de su segundo sencillo Burning Up, Madonna recurrió a Steve Barron, famoso por dirigir videos como Billie Jean de Michael Jackson y Take On Me de A-ha. Es el primer videoclip de Madonna en tener efectos especiales, lasers y diferentes ángulos de camara. Fue rodado en Castaic Lake y en Angeles National Forest en Los Angeles, California, en el que vemos a una joven y atrevida Madonna gateando por la calle, ardiendo por el amor su amante, aparece tambien Kenny Compton, novio de Madonna en aquel entonces. A diferencia del primer video muestra un cambio radical de imagen, vestida con ropa provocativa y con varios collares y cruces.
Con un modesto presupuesto de $1,500 USD, Madonna filmo su primer videoclip, para hacer promoción a su primer single Everybody, y sirvio tambien para aclarar el misterio que surgia alrededor de ella, ya que el publico creia que era una cantante de color. La trama del video es muy simple, nos muestra a Madonna junto a dos bailarines en la discoteca The Parade Garage Club de Nueva York, lugar en donde se toco el demo de esta canción por primera vez. La coreografia corrio a cargo de su hermano, Christopher Ciconne, quien aparece como su bailarin junto con Erika Belle, amiga de Madonna.

Para 1984, Madonna ya habia terminado de grabar su segundo disco, sin embargo, la disquera estaba dispuesta a explotar el album debut hasta el final. Lucky Star es el quinto y ultimo single del album debut de Madonna. La escribio justo despues de firmar su contrato con la disquera y se la dedico a Mark Kamins. Fue un exito en varios paises y fue la primer cancion de Madonna en entrar en los primeros 5 lugares del Billboard ocupando el puesto #4.

Con Borderline, Madonna llego al top 10 para quedarse, era la primera vez que uno de sus singles entraba en los primeros lugares, obteniendo tambien la certificación de oro por las altas ventas, aunque en Europa no alcanzó el exito de Holiday. Es la canción con mas sonido pop de todo el album, alejandose un poco del sonido de música disco que predomina en el album.
Holiday, es el primer exito de verdad de Madonna, con un legado que sigue presente hasta el dia de hoy. Es su tercer sencillo y el primero de su album de estudio. Fue escrita originalmente para Mary Wilson, ex miebro de The Supremes, pero la rechazó y Madonna la incluyó en su album debut. Ingresando por primera vez en el Top 20 del Billboard Hot 100 y se mantuvo durante 17 semanas en el Billboard Hot Dance Club.

Madonna puso todo su empeño en este single, para garantizar la grabación de su primer album. y asi en lugar de una sola canción, su segundo single incluia Burning Up y Physical Attraction. El exito obtenido fue similar al del primer single, ingresando en el #3 del Billboard Hot Dance. Existen versiones no oficiales grabadas en la epoca en que Madonna era vocalista de Emmy and The Emmys, con un sonido un poco mas rock. En la portada seguia sin revelarse el verdadero rostro de Madonna.

Everybody, formaba parte de la carpeta de demos que Madonna llevaba por diferentes clubs para darse a conocer. Madonna convencio al DJ Mark Kamins (al que conocio en el club Danceteria), de su talento como cantante y produjo la canción compuesta por la misma Madonna. Su primer contrato fue por dos sencillos con opcion de grabar un album completo si funcionaba bien. Lanzado en 1982, vendio unas 250,000 copias en Estados Unidos, y solo llego al #107 en el Billboard Chart, pero alcanzó el #3 en el Billboard Hot Dance, consolidandose como un exito. El público, pensaba que Madonna era una cantante negra, ya que en la portada del single no aparece ninguna fotografia de ella, y la disquera queria jugar con ese misterio como método de promoción.
Esta canción fue interpretada durante la primer gira de Madonna, The Virgin Tour. Fué la cuarta canción del show, en donde utiliza un sombrero que hace juego con el resto de su vestuario y detras de ella hay una grabadora que hace referencia a su video, que a pesar de ser una coreografia simple, volvió locos a los fanaticos. La canción no fue incluida en la siguiente gira, pero en el Blond Ambition Tour, fué un intro con la frase "dance, and sing, get up and do your thing" para dar paso a la canción Express Yourself.
En The Girlie Show Tour, Everybody tuvo un gran regreso como canción final. Después de interpretar Justify My Love, Madonna regresa al escenario, vestida con unos shorts y una playera de la selección de futbol del pais donde estuviera dando el concierto. Comienza con un estribillo de la canción "Everybody Is A Star" de "Sly & The Family Stone", y despues continua con Everybody, mientras los bailarines hacen acrobacias, y ella presenta a la banda, finalmente canta con el publicó, para despues agradecer y desaparecer tras el telon, y para terminar reaparece disfrazada y al quitarse la mascara, el publico se vuelve loco y canta de nuevo la linea de "Everybody Is A Star" y despues deja el escenario.
Iba a ser incluida originalmente en el repertorio del Confessions Tour, pero fue remplazada por La Isla Bonita. Sin embargo, durante la promoción del album Confessions On A Dance Floor, Madonna interpreto la canción varias veces, siempre para finalizar el show. Y durante el Sticky & Sweet Tour, interpreta unas lineas en la canción Holiday.

Como dato curioso, cabe mencionar, que esta canción habia sido parte de todos las giras de Madonna, aunque rompio la tradicion durante el Confessions Tour, diciendo que era tiempo de dejar las cosas en el pasado y seguir con cosas nuevas.
En el Virgin Tour, fue la única ocasión que Madonna interpreto la canción entre las primeras, siendo la segunda, usando aun la colorida chamarra con la que empezó el show y con una coreografia similar a la del video de Lucky Star, durante la interpretación se tomo un momento para platicar y agradecer el apoyo del público.
En una version mas rock, durante el Who's That Girl Tour, fue interpretada durante las ultimas canciones del show, despues del exito Who's That Girl, usando aun su vestido rojo, se tomo tiempo para bromear sobre su cabello despeinado y para finalizar el show.
Fue la penultima canción del Blond Ambition Tour, en la que Madonna, con un atuendo de bailarina centroamericana, junto con sus bailarines, en una de las mejores presentaciones de la canción, tanto asi, que fue utilizada como video de la cancion. Contiene extractos de Do The Bus Stop.
Con una version diferente durante el Girlie Show, con extractos de la cancion Holiday For Calliope, Madonna vestida con un gran abrigo de la marina y con una enorme bandera de Estados Unidos detras de ella, interpreto la cancion en una version militar.
Con una playera con la leyenda "Mother" por el frente y "F*ckers" por detras, junto con un abrigo blanco y un sombrero, fue interpretada durante la parte Ghetto del Drowned World Tour, junto con sus coristas Niki y Dona. Contiene unos extractos de Music Sounds Better With You.
Durante el Re-Invetion Tour, fue interpretada en una version completamente diferente a las anteriores, algo muy tribal, pero conservando la escencia de la canción, con playeras blancas y una gran falda escosesa, Madonna, acompañada de sus bailarines finalizan el show. Durante el Confessions Tour, fue la primera vez que no incluia la canción en una gira, aunque en el intro de Music, se puede escuchar un pequeño fragmento.

Fue parte del repertorio del Virgin Tour, despues de Over And Over y antes de Like A Virgin. Durante The Virgin Tour, Madonna, no hizo justicia a esta cancion, ya que corto el segundo verso, la hizo mucho mas corta (durando solo dos minutos) y la interpreto solo caminando por el escenario. Fue eliminada del VHS/DVD original.

Fue interpretada por primera vez en The Virgin Tour, siendo la octava cancion del show, en el que usaba un vestuario negro y una cruz en el cuello con una coreografia similar a la del videoclip.
Durante el Who's That Girl Tour, fue la segunda canción que interpreto, justo despues de Open Your Heart, con una gran bola de música disco sobre ella, con una coreografía mas elaborada y un vestuario completamente diferente al usado durante la primer gira.
Casi 20 años despues, fue interpretada de nuevo durante el Confessions Tour. Como continuación de la agotadora La Isla Bonita, Madonna se derrumba en el escenario y dos de sus bailarinas se acercan a ella, la cubren con una capa blanca que lleva la leyenda "DANCING QUEEN" (otra referencia del grupo ABBA) y la ayudan a levantar, ella camina hacia adelante, para despues abrir la capa y revelar varias luces de colores, lo que causa el furor de los fanáticos, interpretando una grandiosa version de Lucky Star con elementos de Hung Up como fondo, para finalizar preguntando al público, Do you wanna hear some more?, canta el coro de Hung Up y deja el escenario.

Después de pasar por varias bandas, grabar diferentes demos, cambiar de mánagers y dejar antiguos compañeros, Madonna logró que su novio en ese entonces, el DJ Mark Kamins (quien produjó su primer sencillo), firmar un contrato con Sire Records para pulbicar dos singles; "Everybody" y "Burning Up".
Ambos singles tuvieron buena aceptación en los clubs, y le dieron la autorización para producir su primer album. Una mezcla de pop, soul, euro-disco y dance, que era muy diferente a los estilos mas rock y punk, con los que habia intentado triunfar en el mundo de la música. Madonna había escrito ya 5 canciones para el album, y Sire Records escogió como productor a Reggie Lucas, aunque pronto se dieron cuenta que no trabajaban bien juntos ya que tenian diferentes puntos de vista.
Asi que finalizado el album, y Madonna no satisfecha con el resultado, lo llevo con su amigo John "Jellybean" Benitez, quien lo re-mezclo, re-ordeno y agrego una canción nueva, Holiday, sustituyendo a Ain't No Big Deal. Terminado el album, se tenia pensado nombrarlo "Lucky Star" y uno de los mejores amigos de Madonna creó un diseño que finalmente fue descartado al igual que el nombre y termino siendo simplemente: Madonna.
Poco a poco fue ocupando un lugar en el mercado americano, tanto que el segundo album fue retrasado por que seguia teniendo exito en las listas de popularidad. Madonna dedicó el album a su padre. En una re-edición posterior, el album fue titulado Madonna: The First Album, y se le cambio la portada original, por una fotografia a color, este fue lanzado solamente en Europa.

Para el videoclip de su segundo sencillo Burning Up, Madonna recurrió a Steve Barron, famoso por dirigir videos como Billie Jean de Michael Jackson y Take On Me de A-ha. Es el primer videoclip de Madonna en tener efectos especiales, lasers y diferentes ángulos de camara. Fue rodado en Castaic Lake y en Angeles National Forest en Los Angeles, California, en el que vemos a una joven y atrevida Madonna gateando por la calle, ardiendo por el amor su amante, aparece tambien Kenny Compton, novio de Madonna en aquel entonces. A diferencia del primer video muestra un cambio radical de imagen, vestida con ropa provocativa y con varios collares y cruces.
